About Me
Hi, I’m Dr. Teresa Grimbos
I am a registered Clinical and Forensic Psychologist who specializes in working with children, teenagers, and emerging adults (from ages 8-20). For over 25 years, I have been immersed in mental health education; 15 of these years were dedicated to working at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in both a research and clinical capacity. I previously worked at the Forensic Service of the Complex Care and Recovery Program and at the Sexual Behaviours Clinic at CAMH. My most recent position was with the Youth Justice Assessment Clinic (YJAC) at the CAMH, providing court-ordered psychoeducational, mental health, and risk assessments to youth and adults involved with the law.
Working at the CAMH provided me with exposure to a wide range of clients and families. I worked extensively with young people who presented with complex clinical presentations, such as developmental trauma and co-occurring mental health and neurodevelopmental (e.g., autism, intellectual disability) issues. In addition, over the years, I have developed an intricate understanding of the influence of culture and community in people’s lives; thus, considering the “full picture” of a young person’s life in my assessments.
As a result of these experiences, I feel confident in providing thorough and well-informed assessments for young people who are struggling, who seek diagnostic clarification, and/or for those young people who have had interactions with the law.
My Style
I am an empathic and curious listener who asks questions with the goal of understanding young people and their unique stories. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space where young people and their caregivers can feel free and comfortable to share their thoughts and feelings with me. I aim to meet clients where they are, and offer humour where needed. My ultimate goal is to gain insight about young people and their challenges, to share this insight with them, and to help them step onto on a better path by providing a treatment plan and recommendations that best suits their needs, goals, interests and strengths.
